Bethel Health Care offers excellent memory care through a holistic approach that supports the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of residents. Caregivers are trained to recognize the symptoms and stages of dementia and Alzheimer's, and to respond appropriately to each individual's needs.
As much as possible, each member resident is encouraged to make his or her own choices for meal, bed and bath times, and for other daily routines. Keeping personal routines may provide comfort in the midst of changes that people are experiencing.
Ann innovative Lounge Program provides meaningful and enjoyable opportunities for interaction. The program was developed by internationally recognized educator and consultant Erin Bonitto, owner of Gemini Consulting. Bonitto provided hands-on training for Kidron Bethel's staff members, also instructing them in leading small-group therapies for those with memory impairment issues.
As part of Bluestem Communities' ongoing effort to prioritize training in dementia care, staff members also receive education and coaching from other innovators in memory care. In 2014, Jolene Brackey, nationally known speaker and author of Creating Moments of Joy, educating staff members about practical solutions to help those who are experiencing the daily challenges related to Alzheimer's disease. Bluestem Communities also sponsored Brackey's public presentation for caregivers and others.
Compassion and care
Our dedicated staff provides compassionate care and the comfort of kind words. A person-centered model of care promotes resident independence and sense of control. The primary objectives are to return the focus of control to residents, enhance frontline staff's capacity to be responsive, and to establish a homelike atmosphere. Bethel Health Care Center received a PEAK (Promoting Excellent Alternatives in Kansas) Award at the Governor's Council on Aging in Topeka. The PEAK Award recognizes efforts to transition from the traditional institutional model of care to a more person-centered model.
