Community and belonging

At Kidron Bethel Health Care, you'll discover the warm, friendly atmosphere of home in each of our three neighborhoods - Nature Trail, Whispering Meadow and Sunny Brook. Residents and staff connect on a personal level, establishing strong bonds of trust and genuine affection, fostered by the continuity of care. Visitors and families are always welcome.

Privacy and independence

Private rooms and a neighborhood environment encourage each person to express personal preferences, such as choosing individualized schedules for the day, favorite foods and activities, and things to make life enjoyable.

Made-to-order breakfast is prepared and served in each neighborhood from 7 to 9 each morning. Residents are invited to join a variety of planned and spontaneous activities and events, including Recipe Club and the "Music Together" intergenerational program.

Mind, body and spirit

 Newton physical therapy

Our goal is to nurture mind, body, and spirit. Personal care, exercise and physical therapy help residents maintain or improve overall health. Opportunities for social and spiritual enrichment enhance the lives of residents and promote lifelong learning, interaction and growth. A variety of activities and programs brings residents together for fellowship and fun.

Residents find inspiration and comfort in prayer and worship services, and encouragement and support from visits with the full-time chaplain.

Memory impairment

Bethel Health Care offers excellent memory care through a holistic approach that supports the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of residents. Caregivers are trained to recognize the symptoms and stages of dementia and Alzheimer's, and to respond appropriately to each individual's needs.

As much as possible, each member resident is encouraged to make his or her own choices for meal, bed and bath times, and for other daily routines. Keeping personal routines may provide comfort in the midst of changes that people are experiencing.

Ann innovative Lounge Program provides meaningful and enjoyable opportunities for interaction. The program was developed by internationally recognized educator and consultant Erin Bonitto, owner of Gemini Consulting. Bonitto provided hands-on training for Kidron Bethel's staff members, also instructing them in leading small-group therapies for those with memory impairment issues.

As part of Bluestem Communities' ongoing effort to prioritize training in dementia care, staff members also receive education and coaching from other innovators in memory care. In 2014, Jolene Brackey, nationally known speaker and author of Creating Moments of Joy, educating staff members about practical solutions to help those who are experiencing the daily challenges related to Alzheimer's disease. Bluestem Communities also sponsored Brackey's public presentation for caregivers and others.

Compassion and care

Our dedicated staff provides compassionate care and the comfort of kind words. A person-centered model of care promotes resident independence and sense of control. The primary objectives are to return the focus of control to residents, enhance frontline staff's capacity to be responsive, and to establish a homelike atmosphere. Bethel Health Care Center received a PEAK (Promoting Excellent Alternatives in Kansas) Award at the Governor's Council on Aging in Topeka. The PEAK Award recognizes efforts to transition from the traditional institutional model of care to a more person-centered model.
