In April, we communicated the Board of Directors decision to delay groundbreaking for the Village Expansion Project in order to re-examine relevant factors: debt ratios, cash position, operational realities, demographics, census data, fundraising, and community priorities for capital expenditures.
The Board struggled with how we best achieve our mission and meet the needs of our current residents. A Task Force was appointed and met for eight weeks to examine the data. In July the Task Force reported and the Board voted to delay the project for another 18-24 months.
While fund-raising will continue, board members felt it was ill-advised at this time to borrow the additional $3.8 million needed to build the designed expansion. They determined that it would not be good stewardship to increase indebtedness at a time when our revenue margin is challenged by the economic environment.
